Living in Government Housing
Families are authorized and encouraged to stay in their government controlled housing for the duration of sponsors deployment. No Power of Attorney (POA) is required for spouse to sign for government housing and furnishings.
Spouses who remain in quarters assume the responsibility for the quarters
Maintain quarters in accordance with Housing Regulations and local policies.
Upkeep of quarters is required, i.e. grass cutting, yard work, security, stairwell cleaning, etc...
Spouse departs area for extended period
During deployment there is no time limit associated with absence from quarters providing the absence is temporarily and family plans to return.
Prior to leaving the area, arrange for responsible party (neighbors, friend) to continue the care and upkeep of your quarters.
Leave keys with POC for emergency purpose.
Families traveling to CONUS, at personal expense, for extended period of time, must notify the Housing Office and Rear Detachment Commander.
The Housing Office has pre-printed form available for the spouse/sponsor to complete.
Single Parents and Dual Army Married Couples
Single parents and dual Army married couples, if deployed, may keep Army Family Housing. When children are involved, a non-dependent family member may reside in the quarters to act as a guardian. A POC must be appointed by the Soldier to maintain the quarters and handle emergencies. The Housing Division and Rear Detachment Commander must be notified in writing of POC.
Relatives and Guests
Relatives or guests may be permitted to reside with spouse in quarters during sponsor’s deployment. Please contact your Housing Office for details.
Terminating Government Family Housing
Power of Attorney (PAO) is required to permit anyone other than the spouse or the sponsor to terminate government quarters.
Quarters termination procedures must be consistent with local policy. Contact the housing office for details and to schedule inspections.
Coordination must be made with Transportation Officer for Travel of Dependents and shipment of Household Goods (HHG).
Family members terminating without Early Return/Advance Return Orders, the dependent’s move will be at the sponsors expense.
On Waiting List for Assignment to Family Housing
Sponsors on waiting lists may elect to be bypassed until return from deployment or have their spouse sign for quarters.
Sponsors on waiting lists with families deciding to remain in CONUS until after deployment will not lose their entitlement to housing and will keep their position on the waiting list for quarters.
