General Information
Approximately 90% of our military families reside in government controlled Housing provided living accommodations. This is a privilege for those who have been selected by virtue of reaching the top of the waiting list within their respective grade and bedroom category.
Although the items listed above are provided to you without charge, the government insists that non-monetary compensation be made to insure that our quarters are maintained properly, quality of life issues are implemented and standards of living are observed by every family. The Housing Occupants Handbook, assists you in identifying your responsibilities. I urge all occupants to periodically review this regulation.
Repairs of Your Quarters
Remember it is your responsibility to call the Directorate of Public Works (DPW), Work Order Branch, 354-6357, or Leased Housing Branch, 354-6458, with your deficiencies and follow through until the work has been completed.
Occupancy of Quarters by Authorized Personnel
At anytime, when you no longer qualify to live in quarters under AR 420-1 or AE Suppl. 1 to AR 420-1, you must notify the Housing Office, DSN 354-6448/6712 immediately, (i.e. family returned to CONUS). Guests beyond 90 days are not authorized unless specifically approved by the Base Support Battalion Commander.
Maintaining the 50 Feet Perimeter of your Quarters
This is the occupant’s responsibility. Grass cutting, removal of trash and generally improving the outside appearance, should be a non-directed effort on the part of the occupants. In addition, taking care of the grounds around a nearby vacant unit and maintenance of common areas outside of the 50 feet perimeter should be a coordinated effort with your neighbors.
Harmonious Living
Harmonious living affects the entire housing area population at Schweinfurt Community. This issue is vital to our day to day living because over 2000 families live in government controlled quarters. Learn to get along with your neighbors and respect their right to privacy.
Loud music, squabbling among families, domestic disturbances and violation of procedures outlined in regulations cannot be tolerated. Families residing in government controlled housing must comply with the quiet hours regulated by our host nation. Soldiers are responsible for their own behavior as well as the behavior of their family members. During the host nation quiet hours, 1300 – 1500 hours, and 2200 – 0600 hours, residents must keep noise to a minimum to prevent disturbing their surrounding neighbors.
Misconduct or violation of the above could result in disciplinary action being taken against the offender(s) by the Soldier’s chain of command. Further misconduct or violation could result in loss of the privilege to reside in government controlled housing, depending on the severity of the offense.
Maintaining Your Home in Accordance with Established Housekeeping Standards
This practice not only benefits you but it also insures that your quarters have a longer life expectancy. Every occupant must remember that the way they keep their house, is the way they probably keep their work place. It should not be necessary that a sanitation inspection be conducted after reports are received from neighbors who are offended by odors or unsightly indicators.
Pets
Most Americans are pet lovers. Naturally, this places an additional responsibility on those occupants who have them. There are basic requirements that occupants must respect the rights of your neighbors who have elected not to have a pet. Make sure that barking and poor pet control do not offend your neighbors. Walk your pet on a leash and insure that you pick up droppings from the grounds immediately around your house and from areas where other residents may walk or play.
Trash
Residents must utilize the Separate Or Recycle Trash (SORT) Program, according to USAG Schweinfurt Policy Memorandum 3-18 and the Housing Occupants Handbook. Violators will not be tolerated! Only if everyone gets involved in recycling at work and home, we can improve the beauty of our living areas.
Other Considerations
There are many other responsibilities an occupant has in exchange for the privilege to reside in government controlled housing. The concerns mentioned above are critical in maintaining a harmonious Schweinfurt community. Please do not purposely do something that will severely infringe on your neighbors’ right to co-exist with you. You must remember that it is a privilege to live in Government quarters and may be withdrawn anytime, if you act irresponsibly and violate regulations.
Enjoy your stay in Government Housing and be a positive contributor to your Schweinfurt Community. We are happy that you are one of our neighbors.
