Key Control for Government Housing
Keys are maintained in the Housing Division Office #5. The Housing Division’s Key Control Custodians will issue keys only to authorized personnel.
General Information
Residents are authorized the following keys:
- Apartment Door Keys
- Building Entrance Door Keys
- Storage Room Keys
- Garage Keys
- Mailbox Keys
- Laundry Room Keys
- Trashcan Keys (some housing areas)
Extra storage room keys may be issued to scout activities or contractors upon written request subject to approval by the Chief, Housing Division. These keys will NOT be issued to residents.
The DPW Fire Department maintains one set of apartment door keys for emergency and after duty hour lockouts for all government owned and leased quarters. Residents residing in Private Rental housing must contact their landlord for additional keys or lockouts.
The DPW Housing Division must approve all lock replacements. Residents are not authorized to replace locks on their own.
Lock-out Policy
DPW performs lockouts for family housing occupants at the occupant's expense. A lockout occurs when the occupant either looses a key or locked their key inside their room or building. Costs for these services may vary depending on the time, labor, and equipment involved. Occupants must pay for charges at housing as they occur with either a cash collection voucher or a statement of charges.
During regular duty hours:
Go to the Housing Division to request an additional or replacement key.
After duty hours:
Contact the DPW Fire Department (Military 353-8645 or Civilian 09721-87711) for assistance. After duty hour lockout service is only for entry into the main apartment door.
Emergency Procedures
For life threatening situations that require immediate access to quarters, call the Military Police (MP) at DSN 114 or Civilian 09721-96-114 or the Fire Department.
An MP patrol and appropriate Fire Department personnel will meet authorized personnel at the family housing address with a spare key to enter the apartment. If a spare key is not available or does not fit the lock, the MP and/or Fire Department personnel will forcefully open the door to gain access to the quarters. The MPs, Community Chaplains, Community Staff Duty NCO, or the Brigade Staff Duty NCO can also initiate emergency procedures if warranted.
Point of contact is the Facility Management Branch, Housing Division at 354-6468 or your Fire and Emergency Services Division, Civilian 09721-87711 or Military 354-6645.
