Community Homefinding Relocation and Referral Services (CHRRS)

The CHRRS office operates under an "OPEN REFERRAL", first-come, first-serve system. Private rental (off-post) housing is normally available within 30 days regardless of bedroom requirement. Personnel authorized to seek private rental housing must contact the CHRRS office prior to signing a lease for off-post housing.

Obtaining off-post housing in USAREUR is a much different process than found at a military community in CONUS. The majority of the private rental housing units registered with this community are located within a 5-25 minute drive from post.

Apartment types vary from 1-4 bedroom units, in many cases without light fixtures or kitchen cabinets. CHRRS personnel will assist you in locating housing which meets your requirements.

In most instances, landlords require 1-2 months security deposit for off-post housing, anywhere from approximately $390 - $1300 which is put into an interest bearing account and returned to you if there are no damages when you move out.

Most landlords in this area prefer to rent to families with no pets. Rent for apartments varies from $350 through $900 depending on the size and the number of bedrooms. Rent for houses varies from $700 through $1,200. All rental fees are monthly, and do not include utilities (heat, water, sewage, trash, etc.).

In USAREUR, utilities such as gas, electricity, water, sewage and trash are a much more expensive than utilities in CONUS. Only one utility company requires a security deposit of $195 which is reimbursed to the tenant when he/she vacates off-post housing, provided the tenant does not owe money to the utility company.
