School counselors will review records and schedules with all high school students Aug. 8-12 at the new Schweinfurt High School. Students planning to attend the high school will need to schedule a meeting now to sit down with a counselor during that time.

SCHWEINFURT, Germany—Students attending Schweinfurt High School this year will need to meet with a school counselor before doors open on Aug. 29, according to school officials here.

A panel of high school counselors with the Department of Defense Education Activity will be on hand Aug. 8 -12 at the Schweinfurt High School beginning at 8 a.m. each day. Students should schedule one appointment now to prepare for the 2011-2011 school year.

“The purpose is for the counselors to review with the student and the parents their graduation plan, their transcript and their course request,” Said Sharon O’Donnell, who has been serving as interim administrator here to prepare the school until the new principal, Dr. Vince Diaz, arrives in Schweinfurt. O’Donnell is the principal at Wiesbaden High School.

Scheduling these meetings now with a school counselor is critical to the success of the student both during and after high school.

“We want to make sure that the students are planning for a rigorous selection of courses so that they can be prepared when they leave high school and move into college,” O’Donnell said.

A visit with a school counselor between Aug. 8 and Aug. 12 will alleviate any problems that could arise once classes are in session.

“During the school year it is required that they have a graduation plan,” O’Donnell said of all high school students. “Transcripts of course follow any course work that they do, so we need to ensure that their documents are correct. And their course request needs to change based on that review of record.”

Parents or students can schedule an appointment by one of three ways. E-mail the school administration assistance at Jakesha.Coates@eu.dodea.edu; call and schedule an appointment by calling the school at DSN 354-6812/6813, CIV 09721-804301; or stop by the high school’s front office during regular working hours. The Schweinfurt High School is located on Kessler Field.

The Department of Defense Education Activity announced last month the establishment of a high school in the Schweinfurt community. There are currently about 170 students enrolled at the Schweinfurt High School.
