Suicide Prevention

In Times of Crisis

While overall resilience and heading off suicidal feelings in advance is the ideal goal, your lowest emotional points require immediate action. At these critical hours, in people’s darkest times, emergency help is needed. If you or a loved one threatens or thinks about suicide, call the Schweinfurt Military Police emergency line immediately at DSN 114 or civilian 09721-96-114. They have an on-call chaplain who will come to you and ease you out of the crisis.

The National Suicide Prevention Hotline also offers a toll-free 24-hour hotline here in Germany at DSN: 118, CIV: 00800-1273-TALK (8255).

The Help You Need

The Schweinfurt Community offers several local, personalized resources to help you regain overall resilience.

Behavioral Health
The Behavioral Health office in Schweinfurt’s Clinic offers services during regular weekday duty hours. While appointments are suggested, they accept walk-ins as well. They’re located on the 4th floor of the health clinic and can be reached at DSN 354-6231 or civilian 09721-96-6231 or 09721-96-6276.

Army Substance Abuse Program
Depression, a major contributing cause to suicide, can be heightened by the abuse of alcohol. The Schweinfurt Army Substance Abuse Program stresses the damage that drinking can cause when combined with depression. They remind you not to self-medicate your depression with alcohol, as it can lead to dangerous results.

In their words, “Alcohol is a depressant. It relaxed inhibitions and makes it easier for thoughts to become actions.” Don’t let alcohol make your decisions for you, call ASAP at DSN 353-1710 or civilian 09721-96-1710.

Religious Services
To satisfy your spiritual approach to overall resilience, the Schweinfurt Chapel offers many programs to help. Their Chaplain services are available to everyone, for crisis and day-to-day overall spiritual health concerns. They can be reached at DSN 354-1370 or civilian 09721-96-1370.
